Through out pakistan, the story of Dr, Aafia Siddiqui and her being sentenced for 86 years of emprisonment spread waves of grief, anger and confusion.
A federal court in Manhattan on Sept. 23. 2010sentenced Dr Aafia Siddiqui to 86 years of imprisonment for the attempted murder of US officers in Afghanistan. On one end was the judge who was proud of his decision and there was Our aafia siddique who condemn the trial and said an appeal would be “a waste of time. And that she appeals to God.” According to a news agency, during the hearings Aafia Siddiqui called on Muslims to stop using violence and that she loves American soldiers. She also stated that the judgment has proved to the whole world that the justice system that America prides itself on, no longer exists. Because her case gives a gate way to the core subject of the United States in the war against terror; and that sadly, American government has been able to achieve nothing in this regard, and the treatment a Pakistani citizen has received is just unspeakable.
Dr. Aafia’s case reminds us that how important the rule of law and justice is, if we are to survive as a nation. .Siddiqui’s case has compelled some Pakistanis to look past the social judgments to issues of social justice. Siddiqui’s personal story aside, the curious state of affairs of her arrest and the gaping holes in the proofs withheld and being kept as confidential, has brought together the point for anti-American feeling in Pakistan.
